(WJAR) — A Swansea selectman says he was informed the Swansea Mall will close at the end of March.
Selectman Christopher Carreiro announced on Thursday that the President of Carlyle Partners, owners of the Swansea Mall, told him that the mall will close on March 31st.
That was the same date the mall’s anchor store Macy’s announced they were closing a few weeks ago.
Carreiro had previously proposed taking the mall property by eminent domain as a way to avoid restrictions in an agreement with Walmart. He says those restrictions contributed to the mall’s failure.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues, commercial real estate developers, Walmart, and all the stakeholders to bring the Swansea Mall property back to life,” said Carreiro in his announcement on Facebook.
